Application of xylanase in paper industry
Jan 18, 2023
During pulp cooking, xylan partially dissolves, denatures and redeposits on the fiber surface, resulting in clogging of the pulp matrix. While xylanase is a specific enzyme that degrades xylan, it only degrades xylan but not cellulose. If xylanase is used in this process, part of the redeposited xylan can be removed. This not only increases the porosity of the pulp matrix and releases the trapped soluble lignin, but also allows the chemical bleaching agent to penetrate into the pulp more efficiently. In this way, the bleaching rate of pulp can be improved, the dosage of chemical bleaching agents can be reduced, and the pollution to nature during the papermaking process can be reduced.
